The 1 Writing Advice I’d Give My Younger Self
From the book, The Art and Business of Online Writing

Writing for word count has ruined the game and fun of writing.
The more the word count the better — worst myth that ruined lives and writing on the internet.
I guess it all started back when people wanted to rank higher on search results. And people who wrote really long pieces were admired more.
This made everyone go — the more word count I have, the better.
So it’s considered good when you drag your 50-word point to 150 words.
Yes, I’ve seen people working to increase the word count — even I’m guilty of it — from my beginner days.
Here’s what Nicolas Cole writes about this:
I’m getting a feeling that I am picking a fight with SEO — long-form writers
My point is not against long form — I’m against pointless words that waste the reader’s time.
Time is money on the internet, you better be worth your reader’s time.
